Our involvement with this project was to provide design assistance for certain aspects of the overall design.
The device provides a high torque output through 95 degrees of rotation. It achieves this by converting the linear motion of a hydraulic cylinder into rotation at the output shaft by means of a rack and pinion gearbox. The actuator was designed for use as a valve controlling device on a high temperature duct. It is maintenance free and self-contained apart from hydraulic pressure and return lines.
Other requirements for this application were zero backlash in the gearbox and zero movement of the output shaft for extended periods. The intended location was also very limited in terms of the space in which to fit the actuator. It is an entirely new design as no existing technology was available at the time.
NCTS ltd. worked closely with the engineering staff at our client, Hycon Technologies ltd. to achieve the satisfactory outcome of completing this project with all technical aspects satisfied.
